The ultimate goal of Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons is to promote safety on the water. We achieve this goal through training. Our courses, from the fundamentals of boating to celestial navigation, promote fun boating through safe boating. Introductory CoursesBoat ProBoat Pro is the best qualifying course to obtain the new Canadian Coast Guard Pleasure Craft Operator Card. It's ideal for new or "about-to-be" boat owners, hunters, anglers and cottagers who use their boat for transportation and pleasure. This course covers "need-to-know" info for boaters who want to have more fun and less stress on the water and pass the CCG exam. Course description, cost and availability. The Boating CourseThis course, open to the public, provides elementary instruction in boat handling and safe operation of a boat in sheltered waters during daylight hours. It is separated into two parts. Students may take the Canadian Coast Guard exam after completing Part I and receive their CCG Pleasure Craft Operator Card. CPS examination of the entire course follows completion of Part II. Course description, cost and availability. Advanced Courses (for CPS members only)PilotingA graduate of the Piloting course will have the theoretical knowledge to handle a boat in rough weather and to deal with emergency situations. Boating Course subjects are expanded and new skills in coastal navigation are learned. Course description, cost and availability. Advanced PilotingThe course covers advanced coastal navigation principles which enable you to know where you are at all times, allowing for current leeway, tides and tidal currents. Course description, cost and availability. Electives (Courses offered to the members and the public)Radio TalkA short course on the use of VHF radio leading to a marine operator's license. Course description, cost and availability. Fundamentals of WeatherThis new introductory weather course is designed for the coastal and Great Lakes mariner. It gives an understanding of winds, clouds, high and low pressure systems, warm and cold fronts. Duration: 7 to 8 weeks. Course description, cost and availability.
